Mr. Fix-It Observes the Sun City Anthem Fitness Center Staff in Action !

Mr. Fix-It Observes
Fitness Center "Efficiency"

More than 20 minutes of "efficient" management supervision was observed by our Mr. Fix-It on Tuesday, June 9, 2020 at the Sun City Anthem Fitness Center, a day after COO Seddon announced her Fitness Director, Torey Crum, has resigned her position with a two week notice...
AND...
...he took some photos he asked us to publish.

 Torey Crum
 Notice something in the photos?
There were 5 PAID employees PLUS Ms. Crum "doing their duty" that morning, and Mr. Fix-It, Forrest Fetherolf, decided to show the community an example of YOUR MONEY AT WORK

And...is always the case, there is more to the story!
Last Sunday in the fitness center two 15 lb. and two 17.5 lb. dumbbells were missing from the Anthem Center dumbbell rack.
After mentioning this to a monitor named Debbie....
...she looked throughout the fitness center and upstairs to no avail.
Monday, June 8th, the equipment was still missing.
Then, miraculously on Tuesday, June 9th  the two 15 lb. dumbbells reappeared on the rack; however, the two 17.5 lb. dumbbells remained missing.
During that time there were three extra monitors roaming to keep us from talking and social distance reminders.

How could dumbbells disappear with that extra "police" presence?
One monitor said maybe they were taken out in someone’s gym bag.
Oh...the gym bags that are not allowed in the Fitness Center !
See ya, Torey...
... Anthem Opinions will miss your excellent guidance and friendly attitude that brought you a number of complaints over your tenure, complaints that were made requesting they be placed in your personnel file....
...complaints that when asked of the COO, Seddon,  if they were included in your file for future purposes...
...refused to answer !
Just another example of WHY a "New Deal" must closely examine the management hiring and supervision of Sun City Anthem employees.
If the newest members of the Board did campaign to "watch the store" more efficiently than the MACHINE, one might now have another pretty good reason for doing so !

The first to go should be SANDY SEDDON making over $300000 and her friends.

    These salaries are outrageous.

    Torey did an excellent job.

How much does a Fitness Director make in the United States?

The average salary for a Fitness Director is $55,599 per year in the United States.

Salary estimates are based on 368 salaries submitted anonymously to Indeed by Fitness Director employees, users, and collected from past and present job advertisements on Indeed in the past 36 months.

The typical tenure for a Fitness Director is 1-3 years.
  • From Bill Breier...to...Anthem Opinions

The certification certificate should  not be preferred, it should state required.

    1. Did you happen to ask why they were talking? Perhaps a morning meeting? Were there needs of guests not being met at this time? I wonder how your fitness center will run when everyone quits because of this FAKE journalism you are trying to post. Get a life. I hope you know that posting pictures in this manner is defamation and ILLEGAL.
    2. According to Sun City Anthem records as of August, 2019, Torey Crum' s annual income was $79,000

Assuming she, like all other SCA employees, received a 3% increase in pay in January, 2020, that would have brought her annual income to $81,370.

  • From Chuck Simmons...to...Anthem Opinions

Does this mean we can expect a daily dose of "gotcha" from the new regime?
  • Chuck, I hope it means that it's time to do a complete reevaluation of job descriptions, income, and benefits for employees with an objective of efficiency.

This is a 55+ community and there are a lot of people still in pretty good shape.

I wonder why the position was not made known to any residents who would be qualified and interested?

If anyone was around before Ms. Crum arrived, there was a lady who the entire community adored named Meg Poulson who ran the Fitness Department while under the management of FSR before we went self-management.

As to why she was suddenly replaced, only Ms. Seddon knows.

  • From Valerie Lapin...to...Anthem Opinions

SCA lost a wonderful fitness manager when Meg was removed under Sandy!

The individual under her was promoted to that position and according to certain instructors this individual did nothing to advance the education for people teaching classes like Meg used to do.

How about bringing Meg back again to have professional enhancement available under her management once again?

    1. Aka: Forrest Fetherolf...Mr Fix-It
When the news got out Torey resigned…I couldn’t find anyone that hated to see her go, the employees chose not to comment. She was not liked by many. A few gym goers never knew who she was or saw he in the fitness center. Torey seldom left her computer screen and kept her office blinds closed.

Now would be a good time to have a more senior fitness manage with people skills and training to help residents in the gym with questions they might have. The fitness trainers don’t want to answer questions regarding fitness unless they are getting paid by a client. As soon as they finish a secession they leave or sit in their office. I had built a trainer 20 paint easels for free few years ago, 4 times since I had asked her various questions regarding workout. She never had time to answer, was busy with client and then out the door. There are many residents that don’t have a clue how to work out properly. I am forever assisting them the proper technique.
SCA deserves better for the amount of $$$ management is willing to pay.
    2. From Elizabeth Breier...to...Anthem Opinions

Group Exercise and Personal Training certifications preferred

The above requirement was mentioned near the end of the job description  under:  REQUIRED EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND WORK EXPERIENCE; however “preferred” is inappropriate.

      The job description also states

“ being able to stand to greet members”

      “ able to push/pull 10-15 lbs”

“Ability to walk inside outside in upstairs without assistance“.

NO  -  the Fitness  Director should be in very good physical shape and be able to teach classes and have all the appropriate certifications.

The job description seems more focused on computer skills than it does on fitness skills and for a fitness director at the salary offered, the requirements should include much better physical minimums than are stated

      (for gosh sake‘s, I’m nearly 70 and I can push/pull way more than 10 to 15 lbs).

Also I would have loved to see the board mentioned more than just in the description of the community.

It appears that they have no say and no involvement in this position.

I would like to respond to Monica’s comment alleging fake news and defamation.

The photo of Torey and 4 monitors was not an early morning meeting as she suggested.

The photos were taken over a period of 20 minutes around 10:30 to 10:45 am on a Tuesday, June 9th.

The photos do not show one additional monitor on duty at the monitors station.

I observed some of the conversation and all the laughter.

The conversation was for sure not all about business operations.

There were about 6 guests in the strength room and about 10 in the cardio. I did not count guests in the pool area and walking track.

      In answer to Monica's question…

"Were the needs of the guests not being met at this time?”

      The answer is NO.

How is it possible 6 of 6 on duty monitors and fitness boss Torey huddling is a space of less than 10’ meeting the needs of guests in 4 different areas that they are unable to observe from the monitors desk?

This is not the first time the 3 additional monitors were observed in a huddle near the stairs and fitness center entrance chatting with each other and not paying attention to duty.

      Fake news Monica???

      Photos don't lie. People do.
