What an awesome tribute which brought back many memories.

Met him on a flight from Omaha to Chicago and chatted through the airport.

I told him how much I admired him and most importantly for being such gentleman and good role model for kids.

He was kind and warm hearted.
He returned hellos from all his fans and tipped his hat.

I tip mine to such a great human being.

Great article. He was a humble man and that made him greater.

I met Ernie one time and spoke with him for about five minutes.

    He truly was a gentleman.

    Dick,

The first thing I thought of when I read the news about Mr. Cub was I wanted to call my mama.

My mother loved Ernie Banks and he was her favorite.

She had always wanted to invite him over for dinner!! BTW, my mama was "color blind".

The problem,? My mama has been dead since 1991.

I guess old habits die hard!!

Ernie, loved by all baseball fans, will be sorely missed.

    He was a true gentlemen!!

    A sad, sad day indeed.

    What an optimist!

He almost convinced me the Cubs would make it to the Series.

Hey Ernie, look for Steve Goodman up there.

    1. For those of you out there not familiar to who Steve Goodman was, he wrote the song "Go Cubs Go" in 1984, just prior to his death from leukemia at the young age of 36.

    Saw your article on Ernie

Sorry to hear he passed away.

I'm sure you feel like I did when my boyhood hero, Mickey Mantle, died in 1995.
