An Anthem Opinions Editorial....2015 Board of Directors Election
Oh No...Not
Again !
Recently it was announced that we have a field of candidates who have announced their intentions to run for our Board of Directors.
We try to
avoid "endorsements" and we will continue to do
so...
BUT...
...there is
one in that group, an incumbent, who, in our opinion.... does NOT DESERVE
REELECTION.
Two terms is enough !

Let us assure you....
....this
editorial has nothing to do with personalities or the character of this
candidate. We are committed to our pledge of civility toward any
person.
This is
based SOLELY on UNDISPUTED FACTS.
For the
past four
years this individual has voted again and again to USE YOUR MONEY to FINANCE HER
WHIMS in supporting a restaurant she was partially responsible for bringing
to our community.
It was SHE who
initially supported bringing that current and continual financial
drain to our association,
by IGNORING
the desires of "the people" who strongly stated....in the survey SHE
ENDORSED...and...APPROVED.
...81% of
them...
...THAT THEY DID NOT WANT RESIDENT FUNDING to support Vic's or Cafe V, or whatever new
name they will come out with as time
passes.
Yet she, AGAINST THE WILL OF THE POPULOUS,
continued not
only to IGNORE that MANDATE, but in
addition....
AGAIN and AGAIN...voted to REDUCE the monthly
rent from the original agreement of $4,000 per month, to $2,000 per month
for a limited timeframe, until just two months ago,VOTED TO REDUCE IT YET AGAIN, to $1,000 per
month...
...after she realized that her true desire...GRANTING THEM NO RENT AT ALL...would not pass the majority of board
members.
In
addition it
was SHE who voted to approve a "sweetheart" below prime
interest rate loan using YOUR MONEY... to a
business that COULD NOT PAY ITS
BILLS.
This
blatant DISREGARD of both the wishes of the
residents coupled with AN UNCARING
ATTITUDE toward maintaining the financial integrity of our
community....
Says one
thing to us....
...a third
term on our Board IS NOT
DESERVED.
... and a vote for this individual would be interpreted
as YOUR
APPROVAL of public association
funds to finance a private business entity which has no connection to Sun City
Anthem other than a renter of property.
...a
dangerous precedent that opens a door to other renters in the future
should they claim DISCRIMINATION by the hands our association....a cause
of action that could very possibly lead to LITIGATION against
our community.
Perhaps the
most BLATANT
EXAMPLE of this candidate's lack of community receptiveness was her PUBLIC
STATEMENT when asked:
"Why do you want to continue
financing our restaurant"
?
Her
answer...
"Because I need a place to have
lunch".
If you find
this behavior as unacceptable as we do...then the answer to the problem is
simple....contact all of your neighbors, inform them of
this voting record...and most
importantly....
SAY NO to
the reelection of....

An Anthem Opinions Board of Directors Election Editorial
Friday, February 13th is the last day for filing a candadicy in the 2015 Sun City Anthem Board of Directors Election.
It is with this final date in mind, that this article is dedicated.
Looking at a
Senior Homeowners Association...It's
Membership...and a Need for
in its Leadership
Being a member of the Sun City Anthem
community for almost 10 years, I've come to the conclusion that "crusading" is normally a complete waste of one's
time.
Why?
Fighting "the
system" only results in criticism and dislike amongst many residents
despite honest attempts of some to bring change that common sense
demands.
And nothing demonstrates that more than
selfish decisions of leaders believing they are unaccountable to those they
swore to honestly represent.
The saying, "you
can't fight city hall", is ever so apparent when one looks at the
continual election of individuals who, for some strange reason, need "power" at this late stage of their
lives...
...making choices...that simply HURT PEOPLE, as well as the financial integrity of our
community.
Someone once said
to me:
"There are three
types of individuals who reside in a senior homeowners
association:
1. Those who
have been successful in life and wish to enjoy its last years in peace without
community involvement.
2. Those who
have been successful in life, yet feel they still have "something
left"....making attempts to "give back" in order to make life an enjoyable
experience for others.
3. Those who
have accomplished little in their past lives, yet feel a last ditch effort to
"be someone" in their own eyes and those of
others...the followers who now for some insecure reason....believe..."they're
time has come" for power and control."
....and....sadly in an overwhelming
number of cases....those in category #3...are normally elected to a Board of
Directors.
I've often thought about that over the
years as I've witnessed those words in action....and...unfortunately...they are,
for the most part, TRUE.
So many GOOD
people volunteer for various committees with the best of intentions, yet once a
part of them....CHANGE...or...feel peer pressure...TO
CHANGE.
Individualism and
creative thinking become "stifled" as they
realize their hope of a positive experience has turned into a nightmare of
frustration....
...as pettiness and "politicking"
become the norm, knowing that acceptance among "the
leaders" also means, agreeing with
them...
...or...face
being looked at as a "thorn in the side" with the ultimate result in
being ostracized by the remaining "team players" who
accomplish little, other than DO WHAT THEY ARE
TOLD...
...a sure-fire result of which
is...STAGNATION.
And what is the reward for always
defending and being a part of that "system"?
A small group of people congregating in
a "smoke filled room" deciding who the future BOARD MEMBERS should be...and how
they plan to keep their "control" in tact by choosing
only those who have been loyal at "playing the game".
To this, add a
publication run by an individual whose background is less then honorable
and who fits category #3 previously described....a
person who is every bit "in the pocket" of those same
individuals.
And that....
...pretty much describes the evolution
of leadership in Sun City Anthem.
Is all of this a fantasy on my
part?
That is for you to decide...but...when
you see few, if any individuals, running for positions on our board, with the
exception of a small group...normally all campaigning together....and...being
endorsed by one particular publication that boasts a 100% winning
record...
....that same publication that avoids
telling the FULL STORY....
...that same publication that has
SUPPORTED every decision made by those endorsed...
...despite the
ADVERSE affect many of those decisions have had on our community....
To continue that path...that mediocre
past....can have only one result...
MEDIOCRITY
It is time we realize
that we an aging association that is now 16 years old...that the time has come
to "pass the baton" to a new and younger
generation....a generation that must realize that excellent leadership is not
merely desired, but IMPERATIVE in order to continue your Sun City Anthem
retirement existence.
Will any of this change
?
Not as long as
those in Category #3 are allowed to prevail.
Could you be a
Category #2 individual or a Category #1 individual who feels a need to "right..wrongs"?
If so, there is a growing army of many
residents who want to know who you are....and...if you
have....
"The Right
Stuff"
..to lead our community in an
HONEST and UNSELFISH manner...
... looking at it through the eyes of
proper experience, integrity, and individualism....
...sharing your reasoning for
decisions through fluid communication with your
constituents...
... in order that they too feel a part
of an "honest system" to which they would give their time and effort in
volunteering for various positions....knowing their input would be welcomed
rather than rebuked.
We hope you will step forward and
consider running for our Board of Directors...dedicating yourself to
reestablishing the true meaning of the word ...
"community"

Kudos to Anthem Today's Rana Goodman Pleas to Change Nevada Guardianship Laws

Petition Gaining Speed
Anthem Opinions wants to commend Rana Goodman of Anthem Today for
her dedication toward repealing existing Nevada Guardianship laws that can have
a devastating effect on a loved
one.
Rather than be repetitious, we strongly
suggest that you visit Anthem Today's explanation of
this extremely important matter that is asking for signed petitions in order to
prohibit a Nevada court's ability to name a guardian for an incapacitated
individual .
Under current state law,
a legal guardian MUST RESIDE in the state of Nevada.

Let Us Entertain You...with...An Anthem Opinions Editorial
With all the discussion about the
proposed marijuana dispensary being planned at the corner of
Sun City Anthem Parkway and Eastern Avenue....and the Henderson City
Council voting on the matter this coming week, we feel it necessary to "support" this venture for various
reasons.
Accordingly...we proudly present our
argument ...to assist them in this decision
which affects the Sun City Anthem Community.
Medical
Marijuana
Just What the Doctor
Ordered
What an ingenious idea to bring such a
"valuable" entity within the boundaries of our fair
community...
...and...we think it's great ...for
many reasons not yet brought forth by those who support
it.
Yes, we've heard all the arguments to
"ease pain", but there are others we'd like to
mention.
And..so...let's name a few reasons why
it's yet another community "amenity" that all of us
could appreciate.
We're convinced it's going to be highly
regulated by requiring a doctor's prescription ... just like
the handicapped signs that you place in your car window
!
So... who would ever question that
effective method of policing its misuse ???
Tired of dealing with
ancient drivers...you know, the ones who drive either too fast or too slow,
never use turn signals...but find it necessary to buy SUVs the size of a
house ?
The answer
?
Legally...as
long as your doctor gives his blessing on a prescription
pad.
Looking for a new activity to join?
How about the Arts & Crafts Club
doing a seminar dedicated to " Learning How to Roll Joints"
properly?
Our guess is that the "dispensary"
would be more than willing to send representatives in order to promote
community goodwill in instructing residents in the art of creating the "perfect doobie" !
How about something for our Pet Club
and other pet owners?
Fido a bit "barky" and "hyper"?
Why not calm him down with a special
way of "blowing" him a
kiss?
Charlie Brown kept this secret about
Snoopy for years !
And it's works for kitty as
well !
Add it to your cat's daily diet.
Before you know it, she'll be loving
you even more when staring at you with those big eyes !
I can see her looking at you right
now....those glassy eyes saying to you....
Of course, we can't help but believe
that this would also enhance our community "assisted"
restaurant toward financial independence.
Our
suggestion...a New Sign in front of Anthem
Center....
And this new local marijuana
dispensary could bring them additional revenue with proper endorsements too
!
Being a private entity...they would be
allowed to advertise in our always up-to-date community magazine....The
Spirit ... or ...
...possibly the "fun-filled" privately owned glossy publication we get each
and every month in our mail boxes...free of charge...operated by the husband
of a board member... who is always voting to spend resident funds in order that
she may enjoy lunch at her favorite eatery at others
expense.
Picture this ad on their covers
!
After all, a good case of "munchies" needs proper attention in a sophisticated
community...and what better way of curing that need than a dedicated restaurant
providing carry-out that would cater to all "high" society shut-ins claiming to be
in pain?
And why stop at financing a restaurant
by reducing its rent on a monthly basis ?
How about our community becoming a
partner in this venture ?
We spend so much, getting so little in
return from that place...maybe there's some "bong",
ah "bang", in this venture after all
?
We could provide "homey" smoke filled "weed wagons" from the dispensary directly to
the restaurant to satisfy those munchies.
Think of the success that would result
with a well thought out advertising campaign !
The possibilities are endless in a
partnership involving Sun City Anthem, the restaurant, and marijuana
dispensary.
While the "marijuana dispensary" might
consider a weekly special....
"Buy One
Toke...Get One
Free"...
...the restaurant could join forces
with ....
"Weed
Wednesday" offering "Doobie Day Discounts"
!
And last but not least, this new
marijuana dispensary could assist senior educational
efforts...
...that's right..."awareness of existence" and the "true
meaning of life" ....
...to all former baby boomers in need
of the perfect "blend" of "medication"
How may you
ask?
In between arguing political
preferences, following a membership tour of the "dispensary", the aged gurus of
The Current Events Club could discuss the meaning of
Donovan's...
"Mellow
Yellow"
or Bob
Dylan's...
"Like a Rolling
Stone"
or my two favorites...The
Beatles...
"I Am the
Walrus"
or discussing if
...
"Lucy In the Sky
With Diamonds"
...was about a girl
!
So that about does it....we want this
new business at its earliest opportunity....
After all...
For those of you who have not yet
realized it by the "tone" of this
editorial.....
We strongly OPPOSE this blight being located in our community !
