Looking at Sun City Anthem through the eyes of its independent minded resident community.
From Barbara Wollard of Barringon, IL...to...Anthem OpinionsWhat an awesome tribute which brought back many memories.Met him on a flight from Omaha to Chicago and chatted through the airport. I told him how much I admired him and most importantly for being such gentleman and good role model for kids. He was kind and warm hearted. He returned hellos from all his fans and tipped his hat. I tip mine to such a great human being.
From Shirley Samuels of Phoeniz AZ...to...Anthem OpinionsGreat article. He was a humble man and that made him greater.
From John Schmidt....to...Anthem Opinions I met Ernie one time and spoke with him for about five minutes. He truly was a gentleman.
From Phillip Rosen of Glenview, IL...to...Anthem OpinionsDick,The first thing I thought of when I read the news about Mr. Cub was I wanted to call my mama. My mother loved Ernie Banks and he was her favorite. She had always wanted to invite him over for dinner!! BTW, my mama was "color blind". The problem,? My mama has been dead since 1991. I guess old habits die hard!!Ernie, loved by all baseball fans, will be sorely missed. He was a true gentlemen!!
From Jill from Chicago...to...Anthem OpinionsAfter reading your beautiful article I'm sure Ernie is smiling down from heaven and grateful that you took the time and love to write this article.
From Cary Chubin of Ft. Lauderdale, FL...to...Anthem OpinionsA sad, sad day indeed. What an optimist! He almost convinced me the Cubs would make it to the Series.Hey Ernie, look for Steve Goodman up there.
For those of you out there not familiar to who Steve Goodman was, he wrote the song "Go Cubs Go" in 1984, just prior to his death from leukemia at the young age of 36.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JtyOq-SU0Ec
From George Jacobs of Cleveland, OH...to...Anthem OpinionsGreat story! You really tell a fascinating tale. Thanks!
From Bill Farrell of Raleigh, NC...to...Anthem OpinionsSaw your article on Ernie Sorry to hear he passed away.I'm sure you feel like I did when my boyhood hero, Mickey Mantle, died in 1995.
From Marge McKee of Grayslake, IL...to...Anthem OpinionsWonderful article....it brought back so many memories of my childhood as well.
