There is a poll on Facebook that ends at 4:30 today.

Re: Should McCarran be renamed Harry Reid?
I thought you might want to add that to your blog to have your readers jump on and add their thoughts and get the tally as high as possible.
Note: You must log into Facebook in order to take the poll.
Thus far, the overwhelming response is....
NO
We thank Rana for bringing this to our attention and hope our readers will take the poll.

And so...we ask you, our readers:

Do you feel the name of McCarran should be changed to Reid International Airport?

Was there sufficient reason to draft such a bill?

Do you believe this bill was politically motivated?

I went to the tele-conferenced hearing at the Grant Sawyer Building, Mar 17th. I am incensed that a name change "go to harry" and that other notable Nevada's are not even a consideration. I testified as did about 7 others in opposition to the proposed name change.

Well, friends, let me remind all of you that Nevada is and continues to be "a GOOD OLE BOY" state.

Even though' calls in opposition have been made, testimonies given, what the "politicians want, the politicians will get"!

Harry is behind this name change (puppeteer) and the Nevada State Legislature are only his puppets!!!

This bill will be passed :( Sadly, no one listened & not 1 question asked of the opponents.....we were just making the clock tick until adjournment of the meeting.

A professor from UNLV a Mr. Green, testified as to why the airport should be renamed anything but McCarran ~ his accusatory & lengthy reading was in favor because "McCarran was an anti-semitic" person!

After all these years.........please (whose pocket is he in) !

I was challenged in my testimony by Chairman Parks to refrain from biased remarks - well I am biased and I said to him, "excuse me Mr. Chairman............." and continued right along.

This bill was NOT able to be voted on yesterday - it was a hearing; when the work session agenda is published with SB174 on it, it WILL BE PASSED regardless of what many of us feel.

Like many of you, I am saddened that this man continues his unethical shenanigans upon many people of Nevada and gets away with it.

Based solely upon listening to the Senate Committee on Government affairs, I have a tough time thinking that the name of the Las Vegas Airport might need changing. It seems very clear to me that the decision to change the name has nothing to do with Mr.McCarran, but has to do with Harry Reid wanting to further implant his name and legacy on the sate of Nevada and the Las Vegas Area.

Was McCarran an anti-semite?…..I do not know, but I do know that Harry Reid is a dishonest person that has continually made decisions for the best interest of himself and his family.

Does that mean that he did not do many good things for Las Vegas? No! But he also has a list of bad decisions as well.

His tenure as the Senate Majority Leader helped to create more chaos and dissent in the senate than anyone could imagine.

His support of the prior president and helping to create the most massive government debt is a tribute to his poor decision making.

Harry Reid is a rich and powerful man that used his position in the Senate for massive personal gain for himself and his family. He may have helped many in Nevada, but he has hurt an entire country.

How did he hurt the USA?

In 2014 there were 352 bill passed in the House and sent to him for vote.

Many were approved by there House of Representatives and NEVER were put to vote. Harry did not do his job. Many opportunities were missed to make our country stronger.

    So….was McCarran a bad guy?

    Looks like a mixed bag.

Some good things and some accusations of bad stuff.

Harry Reid is the choice of one political party, but that party does not represent all of Nevada.

Change the name of the airport?

I am not against it, but Mr. Reid’s name should not be on it.
    1. From Janus Fanning...to...Anthem Opinions

Terrible idea to change the name of the airport to Reid.

He is a corrupt politician with no regard for the Constitution and only thinks of his party.

      Has done NOTHING for NEVADA!
    2. From Gary...at Cox...to...Anthem Opinions

      DO NOT CHANGE THE NAME!!!!
      1. From Robert Nusser...to...Anthem Opinions

        Is the Pope Catholic?
      2. From William Hotsle...to...Anthem Opinions

I agree with your assessment that it is strictly politically motivated and see no need to change the name. I believe it is unwarranted.

Who are the other representatives in the State Assembly from our area who have not sponsored this bill and with whom we can voice our displeasure? Please provide their names and contact details.

        Thank you and regards.

If you reside in Henderson, our representatives are Senator Joe Hardy (Republican), and Assemblywoman Melissa Woodbury (Republican).

Only those listed in the original article officially sponsored the bill to change the name of the airport. All others will merely vote on the issue.

Our federal representatives are Congresswoman Jackie Rosen (Democrat), and Senators Dean Heller (Republican), and Catherine Cortez Mastro (Democrat).

No we don’t want the airport name changed.

Reid was and is bad for NV.

Still like to know how a $30K a year attorney for the city….became a multi-millionaire living at the Ritz Carlton…..but I can guess.

        Long way from Searchlight.

Of course it is all political.

McCarran did a lot more for NV than obstruct the will of the people in the Senate by never bringing up items to be voted on by the senate at large.

Obama’s deep state in the Senate.
        1. From Carl Weinstein...to...Anthem Opinions

As far as I am concerned, I am interested in the level and quality of service it provides residents and the official name of the place does not matter to me.
        2. From Jeff S...to...Anthem Opinions

It's ridiculous to change the name.

It is so well known internationally. It is "our" government looking for more ways to send and WASTE our money (not their money).

Why was this done in such an underhanded way, without time for comments from the public?
        3. Steve, couldn't agree more. It certainly didn't get the press it should have...even among Nevada legislators who will be voting on the bill.

If you watched the meeting that we referenced, there was one legislator who attended the meeting saying she was completely unaware of it until it was called to her attention; at which point, she dropped her existing schedule and went straight to the meeting.

Sounds like something we heard about a healthcare bill in 2010.

Remember the famous words "Pass in now and we'll read it later" ????

We all know how that worked out, don't we ?
          1. From Jerry T...to...Anthem Opinions

            No, No and No!
          2. From Scott Davis...to...Anthem Opinions

NO, I do not think the airport name should be changed to "Reid"

I much prefer it be changed to "Las Vegas Airport"
          3. From Elvira Giannasca...to...Anthem Opinions

Reid DOES NOT deserve this recognition.

If the name is going to be changed, let's make it Las Vegas International Airport......it's the people's airport - not Reid's and the Democrats.

  1. From Buddy Greenfield...to...Anthem Opinions

A friend of mine is a pilot.

He said the cost to rename the airport is minor. signage is minor. the major cost for the country is all the changes that have to be made in maps, landing information that needs to be changed throughout the world.

All the software that identifies the airports.

all the stuff that is FAA records etc.

My friend said that the naming of the airport signage is a small portion of what it will cost this country.
