Would Our Governor Stop Looking for Reasons
Entertainment, the lifeblood of Las Vegas, in addition to gambling, is dying a rapid death......and between the two, it's killing the mainstay of our Nevada economy.
Why this governor of ours can't realize that his controversial orders are "killing the goose that laid the golden egg", is just plain BAFFLING !
You can gamble just about anywhere in the USA, you can eat just about anywhere, but when it comes to what differentiates our town from the others is one single word...
All of the Strip shows have been closed and/or rescheduled to some uncertain date, and all that seems to remain are few local venues.
...and...
...like everything else in this power hungry regime, government intervention is driving them to extinction as well.
You mean to tell me that the major hotels are incapable of social distancing their showrooms?
Sure, less people would either mean higher prices or perhaps the headliners who once were waiting tables would be forced to come to the conclusion that it's time to make their performances a lot less expensive in order for people to attend and enjoy them....
...and allow our city...and themselves...and their fellow local entertainers to survive !
Something has to give...and it's going to take a meeting of the governor, the corporate hotel minds, and those of the Strip entertainer's agents to realize that ALL THREE can't survive without each other.
Are you listening Governor Sisolak?
The saddest aspect of this entire situation is that the many local "starving entertainment artists" and local musicians are paying the price.
Many of our local entertainers have not seen any unemployment insurance financial support, or have waited months before receiving it. They have been forced to understand that the governor's actions are their version of...
In Sunday's August 30th edition of the Las Vegas Review Journal, an article by John Katsilometes (Kats!) summarized the dilemma that local businesses are being faced with while trying to survive....bringing locals the entertainment many have craved for the past six months....
...and have stifled each time the Nevada governor opens his mouth.
Typical examples of locals incurring problems include "Saddles & Spurs" in Las Vegas and the "E-String Poker Bar" in Henderson.
According to that article, the owner of "Saddles & Spurs" made this statement:
“We need to know why we can’t promote what we are doing in our businesses when we have a singer or a duo onstage”, referring to an email from a city of Las Vegas business licensing official that states:
“Live entertainment which includes karaoke at this point is prohibited with a few allowances. You can have a singer, piano player, guitar player or small piece band that is there playing music at an ambiance level. There can’t be any ticket sales, admission fee or headliner advertisement for the entertainment & no dancing.”
While "Saddles & Spurs" and "E String" were chastised, such businesses as Bobby Mao’s, just 3 miles from E String in Henderson, are allowed to provide entertainment.
The Vegas Room at Commercial Center, Don’t Tell Mama at Neonopolis, Chianti’s Italian restaurant, and Tuscany’s Piazza lounge are all providing ambient entertainment.
It's all confusing...different rules seem to apply to same or similar businesses, with only one conclusion...
Our governor needs to get his act together and allow our town to "live" again !

Oddly, as I read this, I sent an email “TO THE GOVERNOR" a few days ago.”
The email was about the library and is it a “essential or non-essential” business?
However it was also a chance to make a comment about how he’s running (ruining?)the state.
I said that while I understand that he’s under a great deal of pressure and we find him a “nice man”, his actions are always not of a leader, but as a middle management person.
His skills as a leader just are not there, and like we know all know about the old book, “The Peter Principle” he has reached his level of incompetency!
Its too bad.
I or we never get a response, but I’d bet (if I was a betting man, living in a betting town) he’s not a happy camper!

Either the Governor is STUPID or is intentionally adhering to the Democratic Party mandate.....or perhaps he is intentionally trying to kill Las Vegas (if so, he's 'beating a dead horse').

This is a very good editorial.
It immediately brings to mind the following question. Has our governor allowed his political mindset to obliterate common sense?
Our state receives a large amount of revenue from the Las Vegas area, a tourist mecca, and more and more people are leaving large cities in Illinois, Oregon, New York, New Jersey, and California to move here.
Secondly, since his rules are confusing, it makes me think that those who have been allowed to have entertainment as opposed to those that were denied that right, may be embroiled in politics once again based on monies sent to Sisolak and other state politicians to get favorable rulings.
