Lenore, to add insult to injury this "new educational system" doesn't even teach cursive writing any longer.
So, someday, they'll look at a picture of that marvelous Declaration of Independence document that brought them freedom, won't be able to read it, and will have to go to their I-Phones and ask Siri ! What happens if all the machines ever break ?

You addressed several important points (including the change in the schools curriculum).
It's a shame that students today are not learning history.
A fourth grader will have an I-Phone, I-Pad, a computer, etc, but can't do basic math without a calculator.
