It's Time Reality Is Faced...We Need a New Association President

Funds Mismanagement ?
ticking-time-bomb-274x300.png (274×300)

What is it going to take for a person to realize a mistake was made?

When Anthem Opinions disclosed that $2,600 was paid for the Hillary buses with association funds, authorized by an association president without the approval of fellow Sun City Anthem board members, a storm of opposition began that has subsequently taken on a life of its own.

We cannot reprint the nature and tone of the comments we received as a result of that disclosure...they were that intense !

You might see attempts elsewhere to "sugarcoat" this situation...but no excuse can ever justify MISMANAGING ASSOCIATION FUNDS...and we are of the belief that this cannot be denied in this particular matter.

And so...we wish to send this statement to President Bella Meese and hope you, our readers,  do so as well, in this matter.

Mrs. Meese...

1. You overstepped your authority and betrayed the confidence bestowed on you as the President of Sun City Anthem.

2. You owe the residents of Sun City Anthem a full apology for doing so.

and...

3. YOU should personally reimburse the Sun City Anthem treasury in the amount of $2,600 as a sign of your unsanctioned action.

and...most importantly... as a result of this embarrassment to the entire community...

We urge the remaining board members to protect the honor and pride of the Sun City Anthem community by taking this matter seriously as do the overwhelming number of residents, and  IMMEDIATELY REPLACING HER AS THE PRESIDENT of Sun City Anthem.

Any board members who in any way sanction the actions of this individual for this UNAUTHORIZED ACT, should be condemned for their lack of responsibility in neglecting their duties to protect the assets of our association.

This can no longer be tolerated by any individual.

It is THAT SERIOUS and sets a precedence of acceptance for any future president if not acted upon.

So, to all of our readers, we ask you...

Has Bella Meese exceeded her authority as the Sun City Anthem Association President?

Should Bella Meese make a Public Apology?

Should Bella Meese PERSONALLY reimburse Sun City Anthem?

Should the remaining board members choose a new President of our association?

Let us know how you feel...

...as well as each and every member of the Sun City Board of Directors.

Here they are:

Anthem Opinions Administration
  1. From "Do As Sun Does"...to...Anthem Opinions

Thanks sharing this ugly fact with us.

There is no way we should allow any thing as such this to happen in this community!

It is a shame having an elected homeowners association board member choosing as the president of this community taking a position of complete authority doing anything she/he wants as a queen or king!!!

Why do we have a BOARD WITH SEVEN MEMBERS?

No doubt she needs to reimburse to our association, apologize what she has done, and removed as president from our board!!!

    Thanks for sharing!
    1. From John & Karen Gunderson....to...Anthem Opinions

This is a copy of an email sent to each member of the Sun City Anthem Board of Directors:

We are deeply disappointed in the recent misuse of our SCA funds in paying for the buses used at the Hillary Clinton appearance.

When the number of RSVPs for the event was given, the next call should have been to the Clinton campaign to ask them what they were going to do about it--not making a call to the charter bus company.

Any and all expenses relating to that appearance should have been covered by the campaign and not by the SCA community association.

If whoever authorized this expense cannot get the campaign to reimburse the association for it, then he/she should reimburse the association from his/her own funds.

If that doesn't happen then we seriously think this person is not fit to hold office and should be immediately replaced.

This action of authorizing our community funds for unconscionable expenses such as paying for these buses shows a serious lack of judgement and a dereliction of his/her fiduciary duty as a guardian of our community funds.

We would appreciate a response as to how this is going to be handled.
    2. From Virginia Faye Bear Finnegan...to...Anthem Opinions

This event was also open to the whole valley.

The campaign advertised it, even making phone calls to individual registered Democrats across the valley to invite them.

This is something that is hardly ever done.

      Strange
    3. From ac corso...to...Anthem Opinions

It would seem that Ms. Meese has assumed that all SCA residents are Democrats.

I am not and therefore do not appreciate "our" funds being used in this manner.

I am sure Ms. Clinton's campaign could have afforded this expenditure!
    4. From Patrick & Patricia Goulding...to...Anthem Opinions

This email was sent to each member of the Sun City Anthem Board of Directors:

      Dear Board Members,

We are very disturbed that the Board President unilaterally chose to pay for the cost of the shuttle buses for the Clinton rally from Association funds.

In our opinion, this is overstepping her authority and shouldn't have been done without consulting any other board members.

We definitely agree that Mrs. Meese should offer a full public apology, reimburse the Association for the fees and resign from the position of President.

We urge the Board to support these proposed actions.

Her continued lack of regard to make the best choices for the SCA RESIDENTS is very disturbing.

If Mrs.Meese is unwilling to resign, we believe the Board should remove her.
    5. From Ron Garland...to...Anthem Opinions

No, I don't think Bella should resign over the bus, maybe over the restaurant deals, but not the bus.

The mistake with the bus was made much earlier is allowing Anthem Center to be used for political rallies for both parties.

The Republicans had at least three events there, Cruz, Rubio, and Fiorina, before the Democrats brought Hillary.

Anthem Center should not be used for any political rallies.

As long as the candidates are minor, like Fiorina or O'malley, it is not disruptive, but if major candidates like Trump or Clinton come here, with all their secret service protection, and their huge crowds of supporters, then it is very disruptive and special assistance, like buses, may be needed.

Avoid the problem by banning all political rallies in the Center.

Bella is a well known Republican, she did not do this to help Clinton.

She did it to make the best of a bad situation that was started when we opened Anthem Center to political campaigns of both parties.

      Thank you.
  1. From Langs3...to...Anthem Opinons

Belle has way over stepped and become a "bully" to the board and its members.

Why do they let her get away with it and why has the community not banned together for her removal??

    She is stealing our money!!
  2. From Lawrence Peterson...to...Anthem Opinions

An email sent to each member of the Sun City Anthem Board of Directors:

Mrs. Meese and Anthem Board of Directors,

Mrs. Meese has overstepped her authority and betrayed the position of the President of Sun City Anthem.

Mrs. Meese, at the very least, owes the residents of Sun City Anthem a full apology for doing so.

Mrs. Meese should, again at the very least, reimburse the Sun City Anthem treasury in the amount of $2,600 as a result of the unsanctioned action and the embarrassment to the entire community.

We urge the remaining board members to protect the Sun City Anthem Community by taking this matter seriously, as do the overwhelming number of residents, and immediately replacing Mrs. Meese as the president of Sun City Anthem.

Any board members who in any way sanctioned the actions of this individual for this illegal act, should be condemned for their lack of responsibility in neglecting their duties to protect the assets of our association.

    This cannot be tolerated.

I would suspect that the fiduciary responsibility of the position on the Board of Directors would make any participants in such allocation of funds, illegally, libel for a significant lawsuit.
  1. From Laura...to...Anthem Opinions

Hell, yeah to all four of your questions relating to the exit of Bella Meese.

What nerve spending money that doesn't belong to her.

    She should be prosecuted.
  2. From Edward Vandervelde...to...Anthem Opinions

    Yes! This action is unacceptable!

If I did this I would be in jail !
  3. From R.D. Wood...to...Anthem Opinions

I wholeheartedly agree with all the steps recommended in Anthem Opinions concerning Bella Meese's unauthorized actions, especially that she should personally reimburse the Sun City treasury the $2600 she unilaterally and illegally authorized.
  4. From Josette Brink...to...Anthem Opinions

GET RID OF ALL THE BOARD MEMBERS.
    1. From Randy Rutkin...to...Anthem Opinions

I just sent a scathing email to "she who would be Queen".

The sheer arrogance of this woman is mind- boggling. Just where does she get off spending MY money to help support someone I wouldn't vote for if she were the last person on earth?

Meese needs to make a public apology, reimburse the association with her own money and RESIGN!

If not, the proper steps need to be taken with the Board of Real Estate to see that she is prosecuted.
      1. From Irvin Prail...to...Anthem Opinions

While I agree completely with the suggested plan of action, I feel it falls short.

Ms. Meese should be REMOVED FROM THE BOARD IMMEDIATELY, not merely “reduced in rank”!

Ms. Meese will predictably try to excuse her action as “an effort to assuage members’ concerns regarding parking congestion” or some such sniveling weak window dressing.

We all know it was a blatant, coldly calculated theft of association funds, which funds were then used to aid an outside partisan political campaign which our board cannot legally support, and which many members strongly oppose.

Additionally, I feel strongly that, should Ms. Meese refuse or hesitate to make restitutions of funds for this theft, we must mount an effort to file a civil lawsuit to force this restitution, plus punitive damages plus legal fees, followed by her forced removal from the board.

We should also investigate the procedure required to bring criminal charges.

        1. From Celia Krom...to...Anthem Opinions

I absolutely agree that Bella Meese should immediately resign and repay the SCA association the $2,600 for the bus.

She had absolutely no right to act as she did and not even consult the board members.

If it were deemed to be necessary, then the political party should have paid for the bus.

They would only have needed a little shuttle bus in any case.

I enjoy reading your blog, and usually agree with your opinions.
          1. From Ron & Amy Levine...to...Anthem Opinions

Absolutely irresponsible action, which must result in a recall of Bella Meese.

In the near term, the board should make a vote of no confidence, and oust her from the board.

If she had any common decency, she would pay the $2,600 back AND resign, but I doubt she will.

Meese is so egotistical, she assumes her positions are shared by the entire community, and they are NOT!
          2. From M. Wilkins...to...Anthem Opinions

The board had no right to order buses for Hillary with our money.
            1. From Virginia Regua...to...Anthem Opinions

This is an expense that should be paid by the campaign or the democrat club who organized this event.

All SCA members should not be obliged to pay for something they did not request and was not of their choosing.

The board and especially the president should not take it upon themselves to pay out “our” money for these buses.

It was a day of inconvenience and many had to cancel their activity.

It was difficult trying to pick up prescriptions at Walgreens since their parking lot was also overrun.

The venue was not well thought out.
            2. From Douglas West...to...Anthem Opinions

The bus expenditure authorized by our board president is just one of many examples of the lack of accountability and transparency that is prevalent with certain members of this board.

There are no professionally acceptable purchasing policies or guidelines governing expenditures or procurement of services and supplies.

We must demand that all expenditures and purchases see the light of day by publishing a budget, creating a purchasing policy, allowing anyone to ask about this at any public meeting, and publish each payment monthly made by our association.

If this information was revealed the general members would be astonished by what is going on in the darkness created by and supported by this board.

              1. From Douglas West...to...Anthem Opinions

Thanx Dick for what you provide to our members.

As you know the information printed in the spirit is so doctored and slanted one can not get any valuable information, especially, if it is contrary to board opinion.

Keep up your good work and keep the light shinning
              2. From Patti Glod...to...Anthem Opinions

Bella Meese has no business spending our money as she sees fit.

If people want to see Hillary Clinton, getting there is their problem, not ours!

                1. It appears that our alternative blogger has had to come up with something to degrade Anthem Opinions and Anthem Today's Marcia Kosterka.

                  In his own words:

"What the two don’t seem willing to acknowledge, as it is missing from their words of praise, is that our SCA Board of Directors are the ones who put Sandy through the process of being vetted for her new position and then hired her."

Of course, that particular publication always seems to somehow "skip" the details that allow him to "twist" his "half-truths".

What he seemed to have forgotten was my comment at the Special Board Meeting that commended the Board for "getting it right" in the choice of Sandy Seddon.

Perhaps his newest advertising gimmick, a hat he wears with "David's Anthem Journal" embroidered on it, must have covered his ears when my statement was made.

(Can you believe he actually spent money on that silly looking thing that looks like a highway billboard?)

Either that, or perhaps his ears were impaired as a result of calling a number of residents trying to "busy body" himself asking people "Did you know he called Sandy Seddon"?

I've lost count of how many people have called me and told me of this laughable little man's obsession for power.

Then again, after witnessing it for 10 years, and the many failures experienced by those he "endorsed" for election, it certainly doesn't surprise me.

And...as usual...regarding his "successful" recommendations, when the past year is taken in its entirety, one only has to look the voting records of those individuals and see how "successful" they were...and for some reason that "reporter" somehow REFUSES TO PUBLISH their voting records despite my publicly challenging him to do so...

...saying the community is LAZY for not checking it for themselves on that easy to navigate Sun City Anthem website.

Incidentally the subject is Bella Meese, not Sandy Seddon, and the heat and 100% condemnation of the unauthorized use of association funds is THE TOPIC AT HAND...

...not me...not Marcia Kosterka, and not Sandy Seddon.

So perhaps he can stop the sidestepping and address the issue that COUNTS....not a conversation with a new GM..or my not giving a compliment.

This time...the Meese problem ISN'T GOING AWAY, no matter how hard he tries to "stonewall it" or look for excuses to sidestep the issue.

He knows it...and he and his cronies are worried sick that they've run out of excuses to cover up what so many residents have finally realized is the truth....

CORRUPTION is alive and well...and living in Sun City Anthem.

And Anthem Opinions will do EVERYTHING POSSIBLE TO STOP IT.
                  1. From Barbara Bogdan...to...Anthem Opinions

After reading your article of the bus situation I agree that the board should do something about the Hillary bus situation. Also the most ridiculous thing was that the email about the shuttle buses was sent only the night before and not everyone was aware that the buses were available.

I would be interested to know if they were even used. This is truly a misuse of funds and the board President overstepping her authority to spend our funds.
                  2. From Howard & Janet Peck...to...Anthem Opinions

                    Dear Dick:

Thanks very much for keeping us informed about what's happening with our Board Members. We really do appreciate your tenacity and fairness in reporting the things we should know about, and we sure know who we're NOT going to vote for in the upcoming Board elections.

We're forwarding this email to you regarding the "Hilary Bus" outrage, to let you know that you're definitely reaching "The Silent Majority" out here. And even though it took a lot of restraint, we kept the language professional so the Members wouldn't delete it before reading the whole text.

You definitely lit a fire under us with this latest incident of insanity, and that's what we need sometimes to get us off our backsides and get more involved with the inner workings of our great community.

                    Keep up the great work!

                    ---------------------------------------

                    Dear Board Members:

While we truly appreciate the time and effort you devote to the Board, this "Hilary Bus" matter seems to indicate that Ms. Meese overstepped her bounds and unilaterally spent Association money without any due notice to and/or approval of the entire Board.

Unless Ms. Meese acted legally under a rule or law that gives her unilateral authority to allocate such an expense, we think she should personally reimburse the Association $2600.

We have never contacted any Board member in the past, and we know it can be a tough job for you folks to sort out all these issues to the benefit of the residents of Sun City Anthhem. However, this does seem to be an obvious case where funds were spent in an extralegal manner and we'd like to understand Ms. Meese's rationale for the decision she made.

Thank you for your responses, and we look forward to hearing from each of you.
                    1. From Diane Cox...to...Anthem Opinions

She should immediately reimburse the HOA and resign.

Free At Last....Free at Last

It's Official !
We're on Our Own as of April 1, 2016

selfmanagement-1-638.jpg (638×479)

At the January 7, 2016 Special Board meeting, three items of importance were discussed...and decided:

1. Anthem Partners
2. The Liberty Center
3. Transition to self-management.

cafe_v.png (300×146)

First, let's briefly discuss Anthem Partners (Cafe V)....essentially they are GONE subject to some bargaining. According to the report given, Cafe V, in return for a complete forgiveness of ALL PAST DEBT and PAST UTILITIES...will leave subject to their being allowed to cater two events they had previously contracted prior to their departure.

Regarding that catered event,  they will pay Sun City Anthem $5,000 for the usage of the facilities and provide a deposit of $1,000 to clean up the kitchen area following the catered events.

They will also leave behind their point of sales system (the computer) and various items they purchased, having an alleged original purchase price of $127,000...a book value of which in all likelihood is 20 cents on the dollar or approximately $25,000.

There is an outstanding loan against the equipment that was negotiated down to $10,000...of which Anthem Partners will be responsible for $7,000 and Sun City Anthem paying the balance of $3,000.

Did we lose on this deal ?  Probably, but when one considers the "pain in the butt" factor....this arrangement can best be described as "cutting our losses".

Does that constitute a "good deal"?

You decide, but most importantly, ANTHEM PARTNERS IS NOW HISTORY !

Secondly, The Liberty Center was discussed and the Board unanimously decided that the roof will be repaired...BUT THE SOLAR PANELS WILL BE PERMANENTLY REMOVED...that it was felt that "greening" the building was not cost efficient, and would cause a further delay before the building could reopen.

solar_energy_sign.jpg (498×387)

The cost to remove the panels amounts to about $30,000 depending on whether any of them could be resold and/or destroyed.  Storage costs were estimated at $20,000...and rejected.

The insurer is still determining what amount (if any) to correct the mold problem.

Assuming all goes according to plan, it was estimated that The Liberty Center would reopen some time in March, 2016.

Third, the Board was addressed by our new General Manager, Sandy Seddon, providing a detailed "plan" for self-management implementation.

6a00d83451c1bc69e201b8d170d0b9970c-pi (377×447)

When Mrs. Seddon began her presentation by saying

"this is like a new business"...

...a breadth of fresh air seemed to enter the room...

....a breadth of independent experienced air !

Without going into the details...let's merely summarize her presentation as MAGNIFICENT......she listened carefully to the comments made at the beginning of the meeting, and asked to address them...

...and address them she did  !!!

...after President Bella Meese first informed her that "comments were not normally addressed at that time" ...

...to which Mrs. Seddon replied....

"That's too bad"

...as Director Carl Weinstein...at the delight of the audience...told her to continue.

She addressed those questions so well and so thoroughly...

...that the Board unanimously approved the transition as of April 1, 2016.

Mrs. Seddon is highly intelligent, well organized, friendly, open, and best of all, a "people person" who appears to be dedicated to the best interests of Sun City Anthem.

Her actions seem to demonstrate a belief that residents are #1, and are entitled to be fully informed as to the operations of our association.

I hope all of you will take a few moments the next time you visit the Anthem Center and knock on "The Green Room" door to give Sandy a warm welcome.

She is facing major challenges....and...she deserves all the support we can give her.

Some other thoughts regarding the meeting

There appeared to be approximately 100 people in attendance....a wonderful surprise showing of caring residents.  Director Carl Weinstein acknowledged and thanked the crowd for their support and community concern.

One other fact came out during the comment period...the authorization and cost of providing bus service from Liberty Center to Anthem Center to attend the January 6, 2016 Hillary Clinton visit.

President Bella Meese acknowledged that she personally made the decision to provide that transportation without receiving any approval of fellow board members...drawing sharp criticism from the crowd.

Subsequently it was learned that the cost to Sun City Anthem residents was $2,600 as a result.

And so...another day has passed in Sun City Anthem...this one ending with a management company which had been contracted for 16 years....getting a pink slip in the next 10 weeks !

Anthem Opinions Administration
  1. From Rivka Wolf...to...Anthem Opinions

I was unable to attend yesterday's meeting but my husband did. I have heard from many people and listened to their summary of the meeting.

I am so glad to read your summary and your enthusiasm about Sandy. I have not met her yet but intend to as soon as possible.

It is so nice to read this positive opinion. Perhaps this is what we needed.

Now we need new people to run for the BOD who will do the right thing for our community.
  1. We received a note from an individual who attended the board meeting yesterday and corrected the retail amount of the equipment Anthem Partner's will leave behind.

According the Board report, It was not $127,000 as the original article stated, it was $177,000.

    For that error, I apologize.

It was also pointed out at the meeting that the salvage value would be approximately 40%...a figure that I HIGHLY DOUBT.

That 40% might be the value that a subsequent purchaser might attempt to sell it to others, but for those of you who watch the television show "Pawn Stars", in order for that individual to make a profit, the original seller...wanting to rid himself of the merchandise, will normally receive 10 cents to 20 cents on the dollar.

As a result, I do not believe my $25,000 actual salvage figure was that far from what could really be obtained in a sale.

Unfortunately, that's the way the REAL BUSINESS WORLD WORKS.

Know Your Social Security...and...the 2016 Changes

How Retirement Benefits Changed in 2016

While a new type of retirement account will emerge, several Social Security claiming options will soon disappear.

Retirement savers will get the option to participate in a new type of retirement account next year, the myRA.

There will also be fewer Social Security claiming options for married couples and a small Medicare premium increase for some beneficiaries.
Here are some of the important ways retirement benefits will change in 2016.

Introducing the myRA

The myRA is a new type of Roth retirement account launched in late 2015 that has no fees and is guaranteed by the government never to lose value.

There is only one investment option, a Treasury savings bond with a variable interest rate that has averaged 3.19 percent over the past 10 years.

The savings bond interest is not taxed while in the account and won’t be taxed at all if you leave it in the account until after age 59 1/2.

Savers who earn less than $131,000 for individuals and $193,000 for couples are eligible to contribute up to $5,500 per year, or $6,500 if they are age 50 or older.

Once the account balance grows to $15,000, or the account turns 30 years old, the money will be transferred to a private sector Roth IRA.

No more claiming Social Security twice.

Some married individuals who are 66 or older have been claiming Social Security benefits twice.

They first collect spousal payments and then later switch to payments based on their own work, which will then be higher because they claimed it at an older age.

Workers who turn 62 in 2016 or later will not be able to claim both types of payments, but must select one or the other.

Stricter Social Security suspended payment rules.

Social Security beneficiaries who don’t need the money are allowed to suspend their payments and then resume higher payments at a later date due to the accumulation of delayed retirement credits.

In the past, spouses and dependent children could claim payments based on your work record while your payments were suspended and continued to grow.

Beginning in May 2016, suspending your payments also suspends payments for anyone else receiving payments based on your work.

Higher Medicare Part B premiums for some people.

Most Social Security recipients will continue to pay the same $104.90 Medicare Part B premium in 2016.

This is the case because Part B premiums are prevented by law from climbing faster than Social Security payments for most existing beneficiaries and there will be no Social Security cost-of-living adjustment in 2016.

People who newly enroll in Medicare Part B in 2016 will pay a slightly higher Medicare Part B premium of $121.80 per month.

This increase was a last-minute fix in the 2016 budget bill that prevented a much larger premium increase to $159.30 for new beneficiaries.

As in previous years, high income beneficiaries will pay higher Medicare Part B premiums.

The Medicare Part B deductible will increase from $147 in 2015 to $166 in 2016.

From the Mailbag....A Resident Responds to Alternative Blogger's Commentary

A couple of weeks ago, we received a detailed editorial comment from one of our valued readers, Robert N.

We deemed it so well written that instead of posting his views as a comment, we instead chose to make it a complete article.

We have received another excellent piece from this individual that we believe should be published as a full article as well.

Accordingly, we thank Robert N. for his taking the time to write the following detailed and thought provoking piece.

Resident Responds to Alternative Blogger's
Defending Meese Magazine

by
Robert N.

Once again I received copies of our “Spirit” magazine as well as the competing “the Villages of Sun City Anthem” magazine.

I again compared the advertisers in the two magazines.

This time I found forty-six (46) advertisers that appeared in “the Villages of Sun City Anthem” and did NOT appear in our “Spirit” magazine:

Dura Cool, Southwest Air Conditioning, Superior Plumbing & Drain, Sierra A/C & Drain LLC, Silverton Casino, Dream Design, Sunrise Dental, Summit Mechanical Heat/AC, American Jewelers, Harold Lloyd/Allstate Insurance, Action Plumbing, Fast-Fix Jewelry & Watch Repair, Modern Closet, AireServe Heating & A/C, Surface Specialists of Nevada, Hybar Window & Door, Pedego Henderson Electric Bikes, Bernard’s Bistro, Barcelona Restaurant, CheeseBurger-CheeseBurger, The 52, Sai Sushi, New York Chinese Restaurant, Ichabod’s Lounge, Bavarian Castle, Las Vegas Quality Water Works, The Multi-Care Group, SellMyHome LV.com, Ambiance Barber Salon, Rebathand kitchenLV.com, Sunburst Shutters, Elite Plumbing, Heating, AC, BugWorks Pest Control, A&F Painting, Land Teck Inc., Kimberly’s Cleaning, Pacifica Senior Living, Air Supply Heating & A/C, Universal Realty, US Patio Furniture, Ron DeCar’s Event Center, Linda Wood Dermatology, Alternate Window Tint, Rhino’s Maids, LLC, First Class Pharmacy, Davis Funeral Home.

As you are aware I previously questioned the appearance of what could be interpreted as questionable fiduciary responsibility on the part of our Board members, as the publisher of “the Villages of Sun City Anthem” is the husband of our Board President.

In the spirit of time and efficiency I will not re-hash my opinions.

An alternate blogger appears to have found it necessary to refute my opinions.

His response was printed as an “editorial” in that blog.

It raised an eyebrow as I read it since, in my opinion, it was prepared to defend a seemingly innocuous possibility of a Board member’s inability to conduct business within proper fiduciary parameters.

I would like to address several of the points in that editorial:

(Note that the following are my opinions - future true and verifiable facts my prove my opinions incorrect)

The author stated:

“This year’s budget, for example foresees a profit-revenue over expenses-of more than $65,000 for the Spirit, and some in community leadership have told me that the final figure may actually be much higher than that”.

It appears this blogger has access to financial information not readily made available to the membership.

I reviewed the budget mailed to SCA Residents in the letter dated 11-2-2015 and did NOT see any entry for that estimate; and, incidentally, the figure is an estimate only.

If that estimate was made the same way the estimate(s) for our current restaurant were made, we have a BIG problem.

And, of course, think of what the estimate COULD be if all the advertisers in “the Villages of Sun City Anthem” paid to advertise in the “Spirit” magazine;  the increased revenue could help pay for the Liberty Center mold remediation (another result of failure to follow proper fiduciary parameters).

The author further states:

“For the most part, the Villages magazine features lifestyle articles, including cover stories about SCA residents, that are not deemed appropriate for the Spirit…”

WHO exactly determines “what is appropriate for SCA residents”?

Would not cover stories about SCA residents be quite appropriate for the Spirit magazine?

The author also states:

“…Bella has nothing whatsoever to do with the Villages magazine. George does not sell the advertising, which is done by a separate company…”

I commend the author for his apparent intimate knowledge regarding Mr. and Mrs. Meese.

This statement, however, appears to substantiate my opinion regarding the lack of adherence to fiduciary parameters.

Perhaps the HOA Board should hire the same company to sell advertising in the Spirit magazine?

Did anyone ever consider that possibility?

In closing, during my working career, my chosen profession required State licensing; during my 30+ years I was licensed by two (2) different States.

The requirements of both States included strict ethics provisions, not the least of which was the Licensee’s fiduciary responsibilities to his/her clients.

I take pride that I conducted my business with honesty, integrity, and with full adherence to such responsibilities.

My License, for one, was never revoked or terminated by the State for failure to follow these requirements.

Of course, the possibility exists that there is confusion regarding the definition of “fiduciary”.

To prevent any misconception(s) be aware of the following:

Used as a Noun:
“A person to whom property or power is entrusted for the benefit of another.”

Used as an Adjective:

“Of (or based on) nature of trust and confidence, as in public affairs”

Too bad we can’t force the Bermans to leave the community….!
  2. Hollis,

We would never ask a person to leave the community.

On the other hand, we would hope that one might look at the amount of damage to our community caused by them, and not allow it to continue.

    How is that accomplished?

Look closely at the past endorsements made by the blogger and then examine the accomplishments of those he recommended.

The results speak for themselves, some of which include....

He has recommended each and every restaurant that has failed.

He has never reported any adverse affect to our community resulting from the actions of those he recommended.

He supported a man named Jack Troia, who was elected as the Association President, who was subsequently "honored" on two occasions by Channel 13's Darcy Spears by admittance to the "HOA Hall of Shame".

He condemned a Woodchips Club by inferring they in some way were responsible for a man's suicide, yet a year later, subsequently supported the president of the club at that time, Don Schramski, for election to the Board...an endorsement that was welcomed by current Board director, Schramski. (Draw your own conclusions as to those actions...OF BOTH the blogger and the current board member).

He wrote the City of Henderson asking that Anthem Today owner, Rana Goodman, not be reappointed to the Citizen's Action Advisory Commission....telling his readers that he had a petition signed by a substantial number of Anthem residents who supported that position....but the Freedom of Information Act proved he had only 8, one of which was forged.
    1. She was subsequently reappointed to the position, and today is perhaps the one individual most responsible for uncovering the guardianship issues facing seniors...being appointed to a special governmental committee to investigate such concerns.
    2. He sued a man who was 78 years old....only to receive a $1,000 nuisance settlement.

He "fudged" the numbers for a mini-golf course by telling those who signed his position, it was going to be "free".

He tried desperately to condemn two residents (Bob Frank & Tim Stebbins) in a criminal matter that was subsequently dismissed as being found without merit.

As far as his wife, as you pass the Liberty Center and watch the thousands of dollars that will be spent in its repair, remember she was the president of the association at the time that building...filled with defects...was acccepted...without demanding an independent inspection.

No Hollis, you can't ask them to leave, but what you can do is read his publication...

Look at the individual who made the recommendations......

Look at the results of his endorsements....

...and be smart enough to IGNORE THEM.
