Local Entertainment Needs Support...or...It Leaves Our City

Reprinted from the June, 2014 Edition of
The Vegas Voice

If You Appreciate Them....They will Stay !

Being a senior citizen in Las Vegas should be like being a kid in a candy store when it comes to entertainment.

...and being in that age group, living every day as if it's your last, should mean FUN...and lots of it.

I understand that with age comes health problems, but if they haven't "hit" you yet...you should be enjoying life the way it was supposed to be experienced...smiling, making new friends...

... and enjoying what the rest of the nation doesn't seem to have....that we do...

NON-STOP entertainment !

...and if you're not one who enjoys smiling, meeting new people, and basking in an ocean of fabulous entertainment after working and striving to reach those "golden years", the only person to blame is YOU...for not taking advantage of what you have in your own backyard.

Why in the world would anyone think differently and make Las Vegas a home in the last stage of life?

Just think about all the great FREE things we have to offer retirees?
Most food is "buy one get one free", and most of the time, "locals" are also offered bargains for shows on and off the strip.

When was the last time you appreciated it?

I know I do.

Every day when I wake up and look at those majestic mountains in the distance surrounding that island of lights we affectionately call "The Strip", I say to myself...

"What can I do today, that I didn't do yesterday?"

...and in almost 9 years, I can still come up with something new EVERY DAY !

...and that...is the challenge of a happy and fulfilling...

 retirement!

It's all about how you look at life...enjoying it while you can, and giving back to others what this community of entertainment seems to give us day in and day out...

...sheer joy and happiness !

They give us so much, and yet surprisingly...

... many receive little financial gain in return.

Perhaps that is the most surprising aspect of being an Entertainment Editor of a newspaper; you learn that these talented individuals are just like you and me.

They too have rent and mortgages. They pay electric and phone bills;  and yes, they also EAT...often skipping meals to stay slim for YOU and ME, or in some cases, because they can't afford to eat three "squares" each and every day.

We owe them our support; they are the lifeblood of Las Vegas entertainment, and if not appreciated, they will have to go elsewhere to simply make a living !

You don't want that to happen...and they don't either !

So the next time you are looking for some entertainment or have a guest in town, make them a "local" and show them that you know where to find the best, not quite YET well known,  talent in town !

And I'm going to help you do just that !

How?

...because in future articles I'm going to find those little out of the way spots that are just for YOU...the spots that the tourists don't know about YET, but will know of once you experience them...

...in order for you to show your guests that the real meaning of Las Vegas has little to do with casinos...

...but the PEOPLE who live here and make it their destiny to MAKE YOU HAPPY each and every time you see them perform.
