When Will the Best Interests of a Community Take Precedence Over Petty Politics ?

Sun City Anthem Self-Management Team Change

Weinstein Removed...Capillupo Added

Over the past few weeks, if there has been one Sun City Anthem board member who has taken his job seriously and made attempt after attempt to convey the WISHES of those he pledged to represent...

...it has to be Carl Weinstein.

He has steadfastly objected to change after change that would provide concession after concession to our restaurant debacle...representing the WISHES of the overwhelming number of Sun City Anthem residents.

Mr. Weinstein was also originally appointed to the Self-Management Transition team.

At that time there were three members who were delegated that responsibility:

Treasurer Thomas Nissen, Vice President Rex Weddle, and director Carl Weinstein.

At a Current Events Club meeting that took place a couple of weeks ago, the topic of Self-Management status was introduced to the audience for comment.

...and that is where the problems for Mr. Weinstein seemed to accelerate.

Unlike the secrecy advocated by a number of other board members, Mr. Weinstein believes in transparency; and as a result....he apparently was now being "watched" by certain other members of the Sun City Anthem board.

At the same time recent articles about past board decisions to approve costly concessions made to Cafe V...have had a negative impact on the Sun City Anthem board of directors...

...and all know they now are being scrutinized by the electorate more closely now than ever before !

Mr. Weinstein on the other hand has shown himself  to be a "resident crusader"...

...a man who is "in the corner" of the resident community....a man who is getting the heaviest amount of POSITIVE PRESS....

...for doing THE RIGHT THING

That...obviously seems to have made Mr. Weinstein an "outsider" amongst those who have had their decisions questioned again and again...

...due to the CONTINUAL FAILING CONSEQUENCES resulting from those decisions.

Getting back to the subject of the Self-Management Team....

Of the three members on that team....Mr. Weinstein had SIGNICANTLY MORE RELEVANT EXPERIENCE than the other two individuals.

After not having been seen for months at a Current Events Club meeting, suddenly Sun City Anthem Vice President, Rex Weddle, appeared at one of the subsequent sessions..and within hours, Treasurer  Thomas Nissen DEMANDED that Mr. Weinstein be removed from that committee for supposedly divulging information that HE CONSIDERED confidential.

Why was Mr. Weddle suddenly in an audience at a meeting he RARELY attends?

Coincidence

We think not...instead we strongly believe he was asked to keep tabs on Mr. Weinstein and what, if any comments, he would make about the Self Management status.

Well now...Mr. Weinstein did indeed make a number of comments....comments he considered did not violate privacy, and within a day, HE WAS SUDDENLY REMOVED from that team by Association President Bella Meese at Mr. Nissen's recommendation.

Was Carl Weinstein allowed to defend his words?

NO...he was merely removed without any ability to do so.

Then...a week later, it was divulged at a subsequent Current Events Club meeting that Mr. Weinstein had been removed...

...and that is when the...

 " S _ _T hit the fan !"

The individuals in the audience were stunned at that decision,  and the Current Events president, Mr. Bob Freedman sent the following letter to the Board of Directors with copies to his club membership.

----------------------------------------

August 4, 2015

Sun City Anthem Board of Directors

Dear Board Members,

I am writing to express my displeasure at the removal of board member Card Weinstein from the Self-Management Transition Team. Apparently Carl was accused, tried and convicted of divulging proprietary information at a recent Current Events Meeting.

Since not one of the board members, with the exception of Carl, were present and I was not only at the meeting but served as Moderator sitting right next to Carl I can absolutely confirm that no proprietary information was discussed. The General Manager selection process was brought up by members of the club and Carl spoke in pure generalities, many times saying that the names, backgrounds and current employment could not be discussed as these matters were not for publication until the selected individual was on board. Carl was most careful in choosing his words as to not divulge any proprietary information.

Carl was asked to run for the Board of Directors because of his HR background and now he won’t be allowed to put that to use in interviewing any of our General Manager candidates.

Let’s turn this wrong into a right by returning Carl to the Transition team.

On another note may I suggest that you start the process of hiring a CFO as someone must be responsible for setting up our accounting, regulatory compliance, payroll, etc. systems and that person not report to the General Manager but report directly to our Board Treasurer.

The CFO could have dotted line reporting to the General Manager but in order to develop a system of checks and balances the CFO must not report to the General Manager.

 --------------------------------------

Then...came the "Special Board Meeting" that was held on Thursday, August 6, 2015....

...and the Sun City Anthem version of the "dropping of the Atomic Bomb" took place !

Several members of the Current Events Club decided to attend...and commented on the treatment Mr. Weinstein received.

No board member chose to address their concerns...and..obviously in anticipation of those remarks, the Association President, Bella Meese, merely READ A STATEMENT that was obviously previously prepared.

She merely stated that THERE WOULD BE NO REVERSAL OF THE DECISION....THAT MR. WEINSTEIN WOULD BE GIVEN OTHER TASKS.

There was NO mention of Mr. Weinstein's desire to defend himself....there was NO concern for those witnesses who actually HEARD his comments...

...and Mr. Weinstein was therefore removed by "hearsay" from what appeared to be a "spy" in the audience who conveyed HIS INTERPRETATION to a fellow board member, who in turned recommended his removal....to a Board President who subsequently CONVICTED HIM without DUE PROCESS....

...AND...

...replaced with an individual, Jean Capillupo,  who, as a previous Sun City Anthem Board President and current  Board Secretary who, along with Weddle & Nissen, HAVE LITTLE RELEVANT BUSINESS EXPERTISE IN HUMAN RELATION MATTERS...

...AND...

..."coincidentally" also happens to be the board liaison the CAFE V...with perhaps the worst spending record in the history of Sun City Anthem.

...AND...

that choice, in our opinion,  brings us to this conclusion...

The board members who have created the biggest financial headaches for Sun City Anthem...Jean  Capillupo, Thomas Nissen, Bella Meese, and their newest "spy" convert, Rex Weddle...are now calling the shots as to the future of our association.

What does all that mean?

It means WATCH OUT...for more DEALS that will likely cause even further financial agony to Sun City Anthem.

We had nothing but high hopes a couple of weeks ago that open communication between board and residents might finally come to fruition, but this latest episode leads us to the sad belief that was merely a fantasy...

...that the true colors of those who for some strange reason MUST CONTROL and IGNORE the wishes, desires and the needs of a community...

... are further exemplified by their petty political actions to silence those who have the best interests of Sun City Anthem at heart.

Now...you be the judge !

Did any of this make sense to any of you, our readers ?

We want you to express your feelings at these recent decisions made by board president, Bella Meese.

Was Carl Weintein treated fairly?

Should he have had the opportunity to defend himself?

Should the witnesses to Mr. Weinstein's statements have been considered in the decision?

Should he have been replaced by Jean Capillupo?

Send us your thoughts.

And don't forget to express your feelings to members of the Sun City Board as well.

We have their information for you right here !

    Dick,

Another well written article by you pointing out how our SCA BOD continues to poorly operate...

I had written my opinion after reading Rana's post on Anthem Today regarding Carl.

I thought this my be appropriate to post on your site to show how other concerned residents think the same.

Re: WHY WAS WEINSTEIN REMOVED FROM SELF-MANAGEMENT?

Does Carl getting bounced from the transition team bring back memories...

Bob Frank, when on the board, was alienated because he spoke out against wrong doing. Later falsely arrested only to find out his allegations of the boards wrong doing was substantiated by the IRS and Henderson PD dropped the charges.

Resident Norm McCullough being charged, tried, convicted and fined $500 during a open meeting on charges that did not exist in the CC&Rs.

Jim Mayfield appears to be alienated because of his outspokenness pointing out flaws in the system.

Now Carl because he has not turned out to be another bobble-head to "go along to get along."

I thought there was hope for improvement with this seated board...NOPE!

I am once again dissatisfied with current board members that I supported thinking they would do the right thing.

Look at the make up of the board...how many have ever had the opportunity to run a business or even ask anyone with business knowledge for help...SCA is on a $9,000,000 business and we have a bunch of amateurs in control.

And those folks are going to self management...Yahoo...this should be interesting.

EXCELLENT ARTICLE in this morning’s blog.

You tell it like it REALLY is, and I commend you for shining the light on the evidence of wrong doing. It’s about time everyone living her knows what the true facts are on our governance!

      Thank you.

Well, all this boils down to not cleaning house when the opportunity arose. In my opinion, NONE of these past board members should have been elected again.

As they say, we reap what we sow. So, hopefully we can turn this around at the next election. And hopefully this board won't bankrupt our association.

Dick, you certainly know how to make my blood boil.

So my questions is, what kind of impeachment laws do we have?

    I'll leave it at that.
    ReplyDelete
  2. Dorothy,

The impeachment laws changed substantially a few years ago. PRIOR to the change, you would first need 10% of the voting membership to sign a petition (714 homeowners). Then once that was completed, a formal ballot would be sent to the members and a SIMPLE majority would  be sufficient to REMOVE a board member.

Now...as a result of what I will refer to as CORRUPT LEGISLATORS and their PACs, you must first obtain the 714 people to get the ballot started, but NOW A MAJORITY of the entire membership would have to vote to impeach...in our case, 3,573 residents.

Past board elections usually have around 2,000 voters, so you can see that this is a literal impossibility.

It's JOB SECURITY through CORRUPT LEGISLATION...introduced and sponsored by DISGUSTING LAWYERS...who PROTECT THOSE who create the damage.

The only lesson that can be learned is simply....LOOK CLOSELY AT THOSE YOU CHOOSE, avoiding recommendations made by CERTAIN BLOGGERS, CLUBS who are dominated with CRONIES who insist on the status quo, and the worst....not taking a few moments to attend a session or two, instead asking you neighbors who you should vote for.

As you so eloquently stated, you reap what you sow...and we have sown seeds that have brought us the most incompetent of individuals in many cases over the years.

Worse thing you they could have done putting the foolish woman on the team instead.

As Cafe V goes, worst food ever.

You could have put a restaurant in with good food and fair pricing and gaming.

You see all these people that live here gambling at other places.

The money could of stayed here.

        Dear Dick:

Thanks for this latest information, I am sending this to my friends!

I always liked Carl and his standing up for what he believes as to how our HOA is supposed to be run.

        It amazes me!

Plus he lost his wife and his concentrating his devotion to Sun City Anthem's well being!!!

NO, NO, NO!!! He can not be out from our transition team by our board!!!

Is there anything I can do to change this?

      2. Dorothy,

You and the entire community can do three things.

One...BARRAGE the members of the board of directors with emails expressing your displeasure and outrage.

Two.... tell your friends to do so as well.

Three....REMEMBER those who do such despicable things if they should run for reelection.

We can change this community's leadership by NEVER FORGETTING such actions, and making each and every person you meet, aware of them.

Over the past few months, II believe we've witnessed a new spirit of concern in Sun City Anthem never before seen in the ten years I have lived here.

People are questioning, rather than merely accepting, words that result in EMPTY promises again and again.

They seem to be tired of the STATUS QUO...they look at community sponsored news (and certain other community blogs) as UNRELIABLE....and...BIASED... in such a way as to justify MEDIOCRITY...

...when they should be ENTITLED to EXCELLENCE.

Hopefully we at Anthem Opinions are doing our part in telling the FULL TRUTH, rather than only "selected" portions of it...in order to expose and condemn the secretive status quo that has brought us that lack of trust that now exists in our leadership.

It is imperative we BUILD that atmosphere of TRUST in order that NEW BLOOD, those who have recently joined our community, have a desire to represent their constituents and run for board positions NOW and in the FUTURE.

Without their participation, we DIE as a community.

Other communities have 10-15 people running during their Board Director elections, yet Sun City Anthem has but a few.

And that is an INDICTMENT on THE SYSTEM we have allowed to evolve over the years.

Hopefully our publication in some modest manner, has shown itself to recognize wrongs and those who insist on creating and implementing them.

You cannot correct a problem unless it is first identified...and what party or parties were responsible for creating it.

We have grown to such an extent that we now reach between 1,400 and 1,500 SEPARATE COMPUTERS EACH AND EVERY DAY....a mark that exceeds other community publications 5 times their daily readership.

As a result, we would like to believe that dramatic increase is due to finding us trustworthy, a responsibility we do not take lightly.

Simply stated, we have NO AGENDA and NO DESIRE FOR ANY FORM OF POWER.

Our mission is merely to create a caring and trusting atmosphere in a community we call HOME, where secrecy is unnecessary...if you tell the TRUTH...allowing PEOPLE to practice the "golden rule".

We believe...with the right people at the helm...with the right attitude of "do onto others as you would have them do unto you"...

... it can improve with each passing day.
