A week ago we asked that you consider a donation to the Foundation Assisting Seniors due to their inability to hold many fund raising events during the pandemic. 

This morning, while returning medical equipment, we were informed that during the Thanksgiving holiday, the building that houses the Foundation was broken into and the safe was stolen that included gift cards totaling approximately $2,000. 

It is hard to comprehend that a season designed to provide "peace on earth and goodwill toward men" would include taking items from a charitable organization; but that is the sad world we live in today.

Did you know that April 24, 2019 was the 17th anniversary of the founding  of the Foundation Assisting Seniors  (FAS) ???

That first year they made 360 assists. 

They now do between 20 and 30 durable medical equipment assists per day in addition to counseling, home maintenance, speaking engagements, and community outreach. 

Currently they operate three vans delivering durable medical equipment and provide home maintenance. 

This is in addition to the private cars preferred by some of their giving volunteers.

FAS will provide over 20,000 assists this year and have done more than 220,000 assists since our formation. 

Their "How RU" program has saved 7 lives.

Yes indeed, FAS has come a long way in those 17years !

Unlike others, their durable medical equipment is cleaned, sanitized, and disinfected after each use. 

A little over a year ago, The Foundation learned that alcohol wipes and/or Clorox wipes were ineffective against mrsa and staph. 

Now, each piece of FAS equipment is specially treated with a product that helps prevent the spread of mrsa and staph infections. 

All of their vans, their offices, and office equipment have been treated with the same product. 

All oxygen equipment is professionally cleaned, checked, and certified after each use.

FAS telephones are manned by people from 9:00am to 3:00pm Monday through Friday, but usually somebody is in the office from  8:00am until 4:00pm.

...of their current board members are Sun City Anthem residents.

As always, services are available to anyone over 50 and/or a veteran. 

While a large portion of their services are for SCA residents, more and more requests have been received over the entire Las Vegas valley. 

We learned that approximately 25% of Henderson residents and 20% of all Clark County residents are seniors which accounts for the increase in the number of assists provided.

The Foundation has been recognized in numerous publications in Las Vegas, as well as by the US House of Representatives, the US Senate, the Governor, Channel  3, 5, 8, and 13. 

....and...

...have received awards from Ch 5 and Ch 8, the Red Cross, the City of Henderson, and others. 

...and...

...have been recognized in the Congressional Record and a local medical publication. 

One of their Board members was the 2015 Nevada Senior Citizen of the Year.

In spite of, or perhaps because of, those who have tried unsuccessfully to demean the Foundation and/or even try to put us out of business, the Foundation is thriving.

Over the years several writers to blogs and others have challenged why the Foundation was building a reserve. 

By now that should be clear. 

When the Foundation was arbitrarily kicked out of Sun City Anthem, it was forced to find other offices and storage facilities. 

This not only took time but when the appropriate space was found the resettlement costs were not in the budget. With the reserve account the Foundation was able to continue to serve the community with only 1 day lost. 

Five foundations that we know of went out of business this past year because they were spending more than they were bringing in and had no reserves to breach the gap.

Perhaps they are doing something right..

   This grateful old dude says many thanks to the FAS and their wonderful volunteers.
   
   Vertigo keeps me off ladders anymore so when I received a violations notice of the CC&R’s for not maintaining my address numerals, I called the Foundation and within 24 hours they were repainted fresh and new.
   
   My $ donation was in the mail the same day.
   
   Forcing this wonderful organization off site is an unpunished crime.
   
   Any so-called rules against keeping the organization inside our walls can be revised to accommodate.
   
   When vindictiveness raises it’s ugly head…
   
   REMOVE…...
   
   ...before more damage is done.
   
   START by going back to OUTSIDE SELF-MANAGEMENT with an Attorney retained who answers to the Board .
   
   We need a $350k manager plus a puppet Attorney on retainer like..

A number of people have asked me who they should vote for in the coming SCA election. Other than sharing my personal preference I can’t and won’t tell you who you should vote for. I will suggest that you take a few minutes and be sure to vote.

Having served 6 years on the SCA Board, I know that being a volunteer is a thankless job. I do appreciate all of the people running for the board. Having said that, I am voting for a complete change in our board representatives. 

My reasoning is simple. 

The incumbent board members and a retread are misrepresenting facts in their campaigns and if they will do that while campaigning, what will they do if elected?

Last I heard, a leopard doesn’t change its spots.

Forrest Quinn tells us he has saved SCA millions of $$$. 

Let’s see now, he has been in office for 22 months that means he would have saved  an average of at least  nearly  $90,000 per month. 

THIS IS JUST NOT TRUE.

He goes on to tell us that most HOA’s subsidize their restaurants. 

TOTALLY UNTRUE.

It is true that Country Clubs, and a few private clubs subsidize their restaurants. No Del Webb/Pulte senior community that I know of subsidizes their restaurants and I’ve been to Tucson, Sun City, Sun City Grand, Sun City West, Sun City Palm Desert, Sun City MacDonald Ranch, Summerlin, Roseville, Lincoln Hills, Texas, the Carolinas and none of them subsidize their restaurants. 

My first Sun City purchase was at Sun City Palm Desert so I am fairly familiar with their history..

David Weil tells us he led the community in the transition from developer to resident control. 

FALSE! 

Fact, he was not a member of the Transition Committee, he was not a member of any of the task forces,  and, transition was started in 2003, and was completed in April 2005. 

He was elected in May 2005. 

How do I know all of this? 

I was Chair of the Transition Committee, the Communication task force, SCA Treasurer, President,  and member of the board of SCA.

Rex Weddle? 

He is responsible for the current hiring and paying nearly double the going rate for a GM or whatever the title may be, as well as the hiring of an agent to inspect our homes and disrupt the lives of so many.

Arrogance and disrespect should not be rewarded.

The others are unknowns whose experience is no better nor worse than previous candidates or their counter parts on Rana Goodman's New Tradition team.

A blogger has stated that several members of the New Tradition Team have no experience. 

A recent post card lauds the combined 50 years of SCA experience of the Berman team. 

I should remind you that Bob Frank, Lyndal Ruiz, Favil West, Dea Macdonald, all of the Del Webb group of board members, and Mike Dixon had no experience at SCA, yet that blogger supported all of them at one time or another.

The choice you have is simple. 

Do you want to support the status quo which is known for misrepresenting facts, bringing strife and division to our community, as well as significantly over paying the top 5 employees, or ,are you going to vote for a change?

The Berman ticket supports the status quo which has created disharmony, distrust, a significant drop in our national standing, and other problems in our community. 

I find it interesting to find that the Berman group is spending so much money to stay in power. 

Being a SCA Board member must be a pretty valuable position if they are willing to spend about $3000 to send out a bulk mailing, or do they fear that a group of honest law abiding people will find something untoward in their operation. 

You be the judge.

Personally, Im voting for a complete change and am supporting the New Tradition Team.

...  "Machine" Lifestyle Committee Member Robert Goldfried, recently joined the "I hate the New Tradition Team Club" and authored an epistle that thank God, none of his former legal clients, weren't subject to a fee.

...but in the long, drawn out and BORING  process of his denigration of "The  New Tradition Team", he obviously needed a conclusion to convince those capable of reading his email...

...and of course published by the "Machine" Mouthpiece...

...that voting for such villains would cause the earth to quake and destruction would rain from the skies !

He ended his treatise with these words:  

" Providing further evidence of their lockstep behavior, and disrespect for the process, the bloc of five didn’t attend yesterday’s Board meeting. Five other candidates were present at the meeting. But not the bloc of five. Is that the kind if behavior we can expect if they get elected?"

Well now, those horrible individuals did not attend that all important Board session; however,  what they did attend instead was...

While you, Bobby Boy chose to  listen to more reasons  why your "machine" dumped more of our dough !

   I even say we recognize that not everyone in the room may agree with the views of our candidates and that’s okay- that you are all there to answer questions.
   
   I DO say that the 5 candidates cannot answer questions about things that THEY have not been privy to / such as unreleased contracts or executive session discussions...
   
   How is any of that keeping things secret?
   
   In fact, I’ve seen folks that don’t support our team taking notes and they will are not stopped from doing that.

      The New Tradition Team has always held their head high and refuse to employ gutter tactics.
      
      They want people to understand that we are all neighbors and their highest priority is "people".
      
      Winning an election is secondary to losing one's integrity.
      
      Hopefully with their election, a "new tradition" will be referred to in the same manner as a presidential campaign that took place 200+ years ago:

New Tradition Team Candidate Flyers Suddenly Disappear...Twice

For two consecutive days, massive amounts of "New Tradition Team" flyers have "mysteriously" disappeared  from racks in Anthem Center.

The problem was first called to the attention of  a member of SCA management, who in turn, reported the matter to the C.O.O. including  a request regarding the availability of security footage.

Security cameras are EVERYWHERE in Anthem Center.

At approximately 1:31pm  on Friday,  March 1, 2019,  an email was sent to the Election Committee Chairperson, Carol Siebel, by candidate Barry Goldstein, also reporting the matter to her.

Ms. Siebel never responded to the Goldstein email.

On Saturday, March 2, 2019, candidate, Rana Goodman, was told by the SCA executive assistant to the C.O.O. that the video showed a man removing Goodman flyers from the Anthem Center candidate display; that the video was unable to identify the individual as a result of a lack of clarity.

It is well known that Sun City Anthem has spent THOUSANDS of Your Dollars on expensive surveillance equipment that includes the latest in digital capability.

...and the clarity of the individual involved was not identifiable?

Then, on Sunday morning, the flyers for the same two candidates disappeared from the same racks once again.

Anthem Opinions was subsequently informed that, while in attendance at the Candidate forum, a member of SCA management was confronted by a New Tradition Team candidate about the second time the "disappearances" occurred. 

Following that discussion, that member of Sun City Management QUICKLY EXITED the meeting with the C.O.O.

Two New Tradition Team candidates were then promised that they would be contacted the next day in order to view the video surveillance recording.

Two days have now passed and at 9:00pm on March 5, 2019, the following email was sent to Barry Goldstein from Election Chairperson Carol Siebel:

"I just wanted to get back to you regarding your disappearing fliers before another day passes. After looking into this issue and reviewing our Election and Voting Manual, it has been determined that this is not an Election Committee responsibility.  Your future contact should be Candace Karrow. I regret that you have had this problem and hope that it is resolved to you satisfaction.

I will continue to do all I can to ensure that all future issues are handled in a timely manner and refer you to the appropriate parties when issues arise that are not covered by our Election and Voting Manual."

Notice one glaring omission?

NOTHING FROM MANAGEMENT AS TO THE OPPORTUNITY TO VIEW THE VIDEO FOOTAGE !

This my dear readers, is a perfect example of:

...or trying to figure out...

What in the world is going on here?  

Can anyone possibly accept this response from an Election Committee and expect impartiality?

And where are you in this matter, Ms. Seddon ?

Just answer this very simple question because they and the entire community demand an answer from you !

Do they get to see the footage or not?

We don't know the answer to any of this, but this thing is starting to smell as bad as dead fish !

In the meantime while this calamity persists, we are alerting our readers and all members of the Sun City Anthem community to this unfortunate situation and asking them to PLEASE keep your eyes peeled at the candidate racks for any suspicious activity...

...and...

...if you see ANY PERSON who removes large quantities of candidate flyers, INCLUDING ANY MEMBERS OF SUN CITY ANTHEM STAFF, we ask you to use your I-Phones and photograph any person who is involved in such activity.

Any and all evidence will be immediately turned over the the Henderson Police Department and a formal complaint will be filed with the Ombudsman.

We believe any and all candidates should have the ability to view that surveillance footage.

Flyers and miscellaneous campaign materials are quite expensive and such activity must be condemned and/or PROSECUTED if theft occurs.

What has become of our community?

Is this what how our elective system has evolved?

We are pleading to all honest and upright citizens of Sun City Anthem:

Please do not condone any such activity. It's not what we are as a senior community.

At the same time, we all know that CORRUPTION has no conscience.

   I’m guessing those candidates’ flyers went to the same place my question did on Sunday. I saw Wes opening and then putting aside various questions. I also felt some of them were hand-picked for specific candidates. That was not a random “question-and-answer” period at all.I had asked, whatever candidate would get the question: “do they feel it is financially prudent that Sun City Anthem  has spent money on medical equipment that previously and to this date can be  provided to Sun City Anthem residents  free of charge from Foundation Assisting Seniors?” I would add at this time that  a contribution to the Foundation is a tax deductible charitable contribution to  a nonprofit organization. I don’t know where funds would go if donated to Sun City but I know it’s not a charity.

      We are in a campaign to bring integrity to Sun City Anthem, something many residents have realized for years has been missing, but whose voices and actions have remained silent....until now.
      
      I can assure you and our many readers, that voice is now louder than ever before, and the actions are multiplying each day.
      
      The issue of the missing campaign flyers is such a disgraceful act; one I would think any caring person would show concern for and attempt to solve, no matter which side of a political fence a person favors.
      
      Have we come to lose a sense of fair play as we age?
      
      Should something like this concern not just this election, but all in the future as well ?
      
      Obviously, that matter is of no concern to that blogger or even his favored candidates, otherwise they might have addressed the issue of fairness themselves.
      
      Instead, all have remained silent and appear to accept that issue as "part of doing business" in Sun City Anthem.
      
      That in itself, should say something about a person's qualifications; not a degree obtained 50 years ago, but a sense of internal fortitude and integrity that you won't find in a textbook, but rather in a person's actions.
      
      I have said again and again, this election is about the COMMUNITY, it's rules, regulations, fair play, financial strength and good will toward one's neighbor, not about "him" vs "me".
      
      And because of that belief, I find him and his antics not only childish, but insignificant in the scheme of things.
      
      Let's be concerned about our futures instead.
      
      Wouldn't all of you rather discuss that instead of "Him" vs 'Me", neither of which are running for any office?

         GOOD LUCK SCA RESIDENTS!
         
         I am happy to see experienced residents step up  to the plate and attempt to make changes that have been needed for years.
         
         The secrecy and lack of transparency has been a problem since we moved there in 2006.  It’s been the “same group” (or friends of friends)  making decisions that have not (in my opinion) benefited the entire community.
         
         To read about the latest poor decision of fining residents because they chose to make tasteful and expensive improvements to their landscaping was shocking.
         
         Friends keep me apprised of things via email and when we visit, which is often.
         
         Perhaps it’s time for the current CC&R’S to be reviewed and changes considered.
         
         We moved to Barton Creek Lakeside Country Club in Spicewood, Texas and it’s a beautifully run community where the Board of Directors listens to residents and does NOT  make decisions without resident input.
         
         How refreshing!
         
         Close friends live in Sun City Georgetown, which is also run well,  beautifully maintained, no wasted dollars on things that are not necessary, and a great SCA community like Anthem could be.
         
         The residents called the New Tradition Team are already facing so much negativity from the same old source.
         
         It was our hope, after leaving SCA, that residents would be able to see through the ‘distorted information” and will talk to EACH candidate (or email them if out or state) and get THEIR  opinions directly, not listen to or read the blogs.
         
         This is an incredible opportunity for SCA residents to turn the community reputation around and gain back the respect lost.
         
         I find it alarming and disgusting that the New Tradition Team is being referred to as Dick Arendt’s candidates.
         
         What a SLAP IN THE FACE to these incredibly talented and professional candidates, who have a MIND OF THEIR OWN.
         
         SHAME ON THOSE THAT MAKE REMARKS OF THAT NATURE.
         
         TALK TO THE CANDIDATES DIRECTLY AND ASK THEM IF THEIR ARMS WERE TWISTED TO RUN FOR THESE BOARD POSITIONS.
         
         Sadly, some things never seem to change.
         
         I am forwarding this email to friends and residents that I have had the opportunity to meet while living in SCA and am hopeful the community and Election is able to move forward in a POSITIVE WAY by all candidates and their supporters.

            In response to the new resident questioning the cost of the recall.
            
            Very crafty!.
            
            It was a set up and a manipulation. 
            
            No attorney was required to get in the middle of this and incur costs. 
            
            It was an insidious ploy on the part of the Board and the manager.
            
            Why send the information to owners without identification on the envelope?
            
            This was carefully crafted so people were left in the dark about the contents thinking the envelope contained junk mail and would be discarded.No attorney needed to be involved and proper identification of what as in the envelope was all that was needed. 
            
            Over and over our rights are being abused by the "machine" and the manager who treats those that pay her salary like non-entities. 
            
            We are being controlled by Sandy and the Board, and this must stop in order to bring back the wonderful spirit of SCA. 
            
            For those of us who have lived here a long time this is no longer a wonderful community like it used to be. 
            
            We are being taken advantage of, and this has to stop.
            
            Our rating as a retirement community has fallen. 
            
            What will it take to bring back a community tat we are proud of?

            It will take a a community to care enough to open their eyes and look at things as they ARE, not as CORRUPT individuals want them to see it.
            
            I defy any person to come forward and prove that the $85,000 recall election expense was the fault of recall supporters.
            
            The Board  authorized the action and they signed the check to pay for it, and you would have to be a fool to believe the entire thing wasn't orchestrated in a manner that brought out just how devious and corrupt our community has been operated.
            
            I'll believe it was the fault of the recall supporters, the day any resident can sign an association check.
