As a side note to your article, one of my golfing buddies ( friend of my Dad) was stationed at Guadalcanal during the war.
When asked by me, what were his duties there, he always stated that they were servicing aircraft.
At his funeral service last year, the priest told his story of being in the intelligence service, and set up the intercept of Admiral Yamamoto's plane in the Pacific.
I guess he had honored the code of silence to the end.
