Squatters
Ousted
A Letter from Resident
Mary Lee Duley
to Sun City
Anthem
Dear Sun City Anthem Neighbors:
THANKS to two vigilant Desert Sky resident’s
telephone calls to 311, the Henderson Police Department’s officers and
Detectives were SUCCESSFUL in removing Squatters in
the SECOND Desert Sky village house located at 2212 Lake Candlewood.
Details are not necessary as when there are
ongoing investigations, rumors and unconfirmed information can HINDER rather
than HELP our HPD.
Residents were “fearful” of the activities in
these neighborhoods, BUT the squatters have been removed. Please remain
VIGILANT about vehicles coming and going in your
neighborhood.
The bottom line is that there were underage
occupants in their 20’s and 30’s in the home without a lease and several out of
state vehicles being worked on in the driveway and
garage.
The HPD arrived to investigate within 5 minutes of
the residents’ call but, as everyone knows, it takes time and effort to resolve
these cases.
Thankfully, this house, as many in SCA,
has been vacant for a couple of years.
IF you see any suspicious activities OR under age
occupants, occupying a house and you are concerned, please CALL 311, AND ASK FOR THE HENDERSON
UNIT, or if busy (702) 267-5000.
ONLY dial 911 if it’s an
emergency.
By calling 311, explaining your concerns, the HPD
will immediately respond. When there are young people with small children in
any home in SCA, it is in violation of the SCA CC&R’s unless it is “family”
visiting.
PLEASE NOTE THAT WHEN YOU CALL 311, IT MAY RING
SEVERAL TIMES BEFORE A DISPATCHER PICKS UP AS THE 911 CALLS HAVE PRIORITY.
Squatters are, in many cases, are recognizable.
Our CC&R’s do NOT allow for tenants in their 20’s thru age 54, it’s an
Active Adult Community for residents 55 and above and we do not want to lose our
“age qualifying designation”.
PLEASE DO NOT try to get
involved or question the unauthorized tenant or squatter’s presence and put
yourselves at risk….
CALL 311 and then call our SCA General
Manager, Sandy Seddon at 702-614-5800, The Community Standards Manager, Chris
Wikoff at (702) 614-5859, and our SCA Community Patrol Offices at (702)
614-6751.
SCA has an excellent Neighborhood Watch Program
and volunteers are needed in most villages.
Vigilance is suggested,on an ongoing basis, by our SCA Community Patrol:
Vigilance is suggested,on an ongoing basis, by our SCA Community Patrol:
Keep doors locked, garage doors closed, do NOT
doors open to strangers, REPORT suspicious activity in the neighborhood,
etc.
My personal thanks to Jim
Mayfield, one of our current Board of Director members for his
involvement with this squatter issue in Desert Sky Village and keeping me in
the loop.
Jim always responds to emails immediately.
I would also like to thank Stephen Anderson, Chief of our Community Patrol, for his input and assistance with this issue.

Today’s SUN newspaper (insert in the Review
Journal) has an excellent editorial about our Nevada Police Departments working
with Realtors to help with the Squatter issue.
It’s is a “nationwide” problem, as you will read.
THANKFULLY, due to our October Nevada law, our
communities will not suffer from “long delays” in the process of removing
Squatters.
Residents in other states (California and
Florida, to name a couple ), as the editorial references, have these long
delays.
IF you have a “security
system”, it is suggested that you turn it “ON” when you leave our property and
leave it “ON”, at night.
Better safe than
sorry.
THANKS to all the SCA residents that have taken
the time to get involved by calling 311, Volunteers for the Community Patrol and
the SCA Neighborhood Watch Village Volunteers, and to the SCA
Administration.
AGAIN, CALL 311 and ASK for the Henderson Units
as this makes facilitation easier for the HPD.
