Hi Dick! You are not old enough…but your father and grandfathers were, and may have TOLD YOU…THAT INTERCITY AND RURAL PAVED HIGHWAYS WERE nonexistent AFTER WORLD WAR I…

MY DAD, UPON GRADUATING HIGH SCHOOL, IN 1919.. WITH THREE CLASSMATES, BOUGHT A MODEL T FORD..FOR $20 AND HEADED WEST…

THERE WERE ONLY MUDDY DIRT ROADS IN THE MIDWEST PRAIRIES!.

BLACKSMITHS MADE REPAIRS TO THE DRIVE SHAFT.

THE MODEL T FORD WAS SOLD FOR TRAINFARE BACK!

Trucks…EXISTED ONLY IN CITIES WITH COBBLESTONE OR PAVED STREETS..

THE EARLY TRUCKS WERE CHAIN DRIVE.

    HORSE-DRAWN WAGONS DELIVERED MILK, BREAD,ICE ,COAL…UNTIL ABOUT 1949. . before your time!
