SCA-TV
Costs
Are they Wasteful?
Are They Worth it?
Anthem Opinions had an opportunity to
examine the recent items that were "researched" for purchase by Sun City Anthem
Manager, Sandy Seddon.
They will be voted on by the Sun City
Anthem Board at the July 27, 2017 Board meeting.
Of particular note was some VERY
SOPHISTICATED television equipment for our home grown television station,
SCA-TV.
Now before we go into the actual cost
of these items, we'd like to know...
Is it... ????
Is it that important, or just a Sun City Anthem "ego trip"?
Before you come to a conclusion,
let's look at the latest
expenditures about to be made.
Notably:
3
Sony PXW-Z150 4K XD CAM
Camcorders
1
Prompter People Studio
Teleprompter Pro-19
Total Tab for the
items:
$15,117.11
(to be paid from
reserves...so as to escape having to show it as a cost
item)
We questioned the amount of
this expenditure, and within approximately 2-3 minutes, a google search came up
with some interesting information:
First, the
Camcorders:
Then we checked the
teleprompter:
3 Camcorders: $8,385.00
1 Teleprompter: $2,449.00
Total: $10,834 + 8.25% sales tax
=
$11,727.81
The difference paid though our
 "expert management" recommendations ?
An
Additional
$3,389.30
After
we discovered this, one of our readers, Dave Czech,
went through the Sun City Financials and discovered something very interesting
on Page 24 of the association financial report that
is on the SCA web site that covers the period from January 1, 2017 thru April
30, 2017.
Click on this link and
scroll down to Page 24.
On Page 24, there is a listing next to Budget item 77615 under "operating
equipment".
These
numbers represent our "financial success" from January 1, 2017 through April 30,
2017.
Note there is a cost of
$95,064.74 with the following
explanation:
"Addition for SCA
TV, ESPG, Camera & Card Printer equip, Hardware for Lighting Device
Monitoring, Emergency pull buttons."
...$61,864.74 over budget in just the
first four months of the year.
So folks, other than the
overcharges for the TV equipment documented, we'd like your thoughts on the Sun
City Anthem television station.
1. Do you watch
SCA-TV?
2. If you do, how often do you watch
it?
3. Do you find it a valuable
communication tool?
4. Do you feel  the substantial association funding is justified on a home
grown television network?

You cannot 'watch' SCA tv unless you have Cox.
It's not a channel available with Century Link.
Those of us who don't have Cox have to look at recordings online that are eventually posted.
The only thing I've been interested in watching was the broadcast of Henderson PD's meeting with residents about the robberies.
I looked online for several days and never found the link.
Not interested. Never watched it......never will. Complete waste of money which seems to be the norm around this community.
Never watch.
No!!!!
This is not a necessary expense the few! times I have watched SCA Station.
Don't watch it, Don't want to spend money on it.
I and several of the residents that I know have never watched this station.
It is a waste of money in my opinion as it seems to have no value in anyone's life.
We do not watch SCA-TV in our home.
It sounds like those purchasing equipment need to do a little more research on the cost of the products, if deemed necessary and beneficial to other residents.
B & H Photo Video has excellent prices and service.
